Valentine's Day in the Age of COVID

Please be aware that in accordance with IUSD protocols for safe school re-opening, we will not be organizing or allowing any events involving the distribution or exchange of treats, cards etc. on Valentine's Day. Some classes may engage in other safe and thoughtful gestures of caring, but we ask that you refrain from sending your child to school with any items to pass out to friends and consider other safe means of observing Valentine's traditions within your circle of family & friends off campus. Thank you!

ANNUAL SURVEY OPEN NOW!

Earlier this week, the District’s Student Support Services team sent a message to IUSD families that the District’s Annual Survey is now open through Monday, January 24. I would like to encourage you to take a moment to complete this important survey. Your responses provide feedback about our school’s climate and where resources that benefit [school name] are focused through the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) process.

This interactive process helps IUSD identify annual goals, take action on those goals, and measure progress on academic achievement, school climate and parent engagement as part of the 10-month LCAP process.

To take the parent survey now, click here.

Thank you in advance for your participation. To inspire a greater response rate by our parents, we are asking you to print of email a screen shot of the confirmation page to your child's homeroom teacher. The classes with the highest participation rate will be rewarded!

Mary Poppins Jr Audition Flyer.pdf

Cadence Park is putting on a show, and all students in 4th - 8th grade are welcome to audition! This show has a large cast and ensemble, so we need all our best performers on deck! Prior theater experience is not necessary--just a willingness to practice and keep a positive attitude. Round 1 auditions are on January 25th, with callbacks tentatively scheduled for January 27th. Rehearsals for the show will be held after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with full ensemble rehearsals on Mondays (until closer to show time). A full rehearsal calendar will be distributed on the first rehearsal/information meeting. Unless your child is cast in a major speaking role, Mondays will be the primary rehearsal day from 3 to 5pm.

If your child likes to perform, I hope to see them at the auditions on the 25th!

Dear Parents,

During this season of giving, I would like to take a moment to say thank you and recognize the many generous families who have already made a donation to Irvine Public Schools Foundation (IPSF). Your charitable gift supports all 42 schools and 36,000 students in Irvine, including ours!

Funds raised through the Educational Excellence Fund make an impact in Cadence Park classrooms every day. Your donations to IPSF provide critical resources to our school that are needed now more than ever to meet the growing needs of our students.

Your family’s participation is important, and a gift at any level is greatly appreciated! Please join me in in supporting IPSF by making a contribution at ipsf.net.

Thank you in advance for your support of IPSF and Cadence Park. By working together as one community, we can ensure that every student has access to educational excellence!

Sincerely,

Carlo Grasso

Principal

P.S. Did you know that your gift will be doubled? Thanks to the matching grant from the City of Irvine, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar, which means that your gift of $50 becomes $100 toward your child's education!

Winter Bowl Registration Now Open!

The Tournament of Champions is back! The purpose of these tournaments is to promote school spirit and unite the community through district-wide sports tournaments for elementary and middle school students. The series kicks off with the Winter Bowl Flag Football Tournament on Saturday, January 29, 2022, hosted by SoCal Elite Sports, in partnership with Matt Leinart Flag football. Registration for tryouts is now open and Boys and Girls are encouraged to sign up, regardless as to experience. For more info and to register, visit https://ocyouthsports.org/tournament/winter-bowl/. (Flyer attached).

Please also complete this interest form to help us immediately begin planning for our team composition and coaching needs.

Our number one priority is for each and every one of our Pumas to have fun playing in the Winter Bowl and develop a love for flag football. Along the way, we will teach game fundamentals and good sportsmanship while promoting school spirit! Our goal is to field at least one team for each grade, 3rd through 8th and we will need parent coaches in order to make that possible. No experience is required – just a willingness to help and donate your time to help organize at least one of the teams and run practices! Our Athletic Coordinator will supply playbooks, practice drills and the necessary equipment. You will be supported all the way!

If you are interested in helping, please contact our Coordinator, Po Chen at athleticscadenceparkptsa@gmail.com by Thursday, December 16th.

Any general questions regarding the Tournament of Champions should be directed to: https://ocyouthsports.org/contact.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS AT CPS

Part of our ability to ensure our students' well being in the immediate and longer-term aftermath of a major disaster will depend upon the preparedness and cooperation of our parent community. To that end, we wish to make you aware/remind you of the following:

1. Stay Connected: See information below about how we will communicate with you in the event of an emergency.

2. Understand Our Reunification Plan:

  • Students will only be released to a parent, guardian or contact listed in our database. Be sure that any adult who you may wish to pick up your child in the event that you cannot make it to school is added to your Parent Portal approved contacts list.

  • In order for us to release your child, we will need to see a photo ID of the Contact who arrives to pick him/her up.

  • If students are sheltering in place, parents will report to the door of your child's teacher(middle school parents are encouraged to keep their child's schedule handy) where students will be released to parents/approved contacts, one at a time.

  • In the event of a major earthquake or fire on campus, we will have evacuated the buidlings, so parents are directed to report ONLY to the check-in desk, which will be located adjacent to the child care building(see map below), and not attempt to gain access to campus through any other areas. Once we verify your identity, we will send for your child, and you will meet him/her in the adjacent student pick-up area.

3. Be Prepared at Home: Click here for information about how you can ensure your family's safety and well-being for an extended period in the aftermath of a major disaster. For a more detailed plan for home preparedness, click here.

HALLOWEEN

Halloween (10/31) is not a national or school holiday, but we do recognize that many of our students will participate to some extent in the opportunities for fun and revelry that this day presents. With this in mind, students will be allowed to wear their costumes to school on Friday, 10/29, should they desire to do so. Children who opt to come to school in costume are asked to observe the following guidelines:

• No masks

• No excessive face paint or gore

• No high heels

• No replica weapons

• No culturally insensitive otherwise offensive or inappropriate attire

Costumes must also be safe and comfortable enough to be worn for the entire day and still permit participation in regularly scheduled activities . Children who do not have a costume or do not wish to wear theirs to school might also opt for an outfit of orange and black that day.

2 Wheels Are Better Than 4!

With an eye to promoting students' physical fitness AND reducing vehicular congestion on our surrounding streets, we continue to encourage students in grades 3-8 to ride their bikes to school. Please be aware that we have two different areas for students to lock up their bikes upon arrival. Elementary students are to use the racks adjacent to the playground and Rainbow Rising, while middle school students can use the racks near the Performing Arts Building or the main area by the playground.

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL PARENT REPRESENTATIVES

School Site Council (SSC) is a participatory panel composed of parents, staff members, and the school principal. Presently, we are in need of at least two parent representatives for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years. SSC is a great way for parents to provide insights and learn more about the "ins and outs" of the school, without a making a major time commitment. We work as a small team to outline our school goals and align them with district and state goals. There will be 3-4 meetings of approximately 60 minutes apiece throughout the school year. Please take a look at our School Site Council Introductory Letter and complete the nomination form if you are interested!

OCTOBER PARENT WORKSHOPS

Irvine Parent Education Programs (IPEP) are FREE seminars and educational workshops offered to Irvine parents throughout the school year. Our goal is to empower parents with the skills and strategies necessary to become active participants in their child’s education. IPEP offers a variety of workshops focused on topics important to parents of IUSD students. Experienced instructors and district-level representatives lead each workshop, providing participants with thoughtful and up to date information.

The beauty of the public school system is that it is set up for everyone to enjoy and appreciate the same experience, regardless of socio-economic background. To that end, Cadence Park wishes to remind you that whether it's a donation or a fee being requested for an expense or event, your child will never be excluded due to your inability to pay the requested amount.
